The GWL 2004????

The GWL 2004 Today, Tuesday May 25, 2004, I am beginning what I baptized "GWL". I must be a true North American now, since I like acronyms! GWL = Great Wine Loop.

During the next 6 weeks I will visit some regions of North and Center Italy without coming back to Rome. This journey will be focused on the so called "Strade del Vino" (Wine roads).

During these past days in Rome, I have collected a few guide books and planned the itinerary with the help of my digital mapping software on my laptop. A GPS system connected to my laptop will guide me along the route. I also rented a car. It is a small Ford called "KA", Standard, 5 shifts, cheap on gas, light and fast. I also have with me many books listing producers, wines and geography.

All the prices will be in Euro (I used the symbol "E") which is comparable to the US$ (E1=US$1).

The prices of wines are indicative, based on how much a store in Italy would charge (usually 50% more than prices charged by the producer at the estate).
