The GWL - Day 16Milano: the capital of the fashion world.

This day signs the end of the first part of my trip. I am now going to stay at a friend's house for about 10 days before continuing my "GLW".

Not that I am taking a vacation... actually I am going to stay in the Italian capital of fashion and financial business, and now, as the media is calling it, the capital of wine. In fact there is going to be the first huge wine show that Milano ever hosted from June 14 to June 16 that I am, of course, planning to attend.

So, I left in the morning from Piacenza and I drove through Pianura Padana, the largest flat section of Italy that divides the Alps from the Appennini. It is all cultivated with all sort of cereals, rice and corn.

Short and boring drive, it brought me through the hundreds of towns around Milano and then to Monza where my friend's house is located.

6.30 pm to 10.30 pm: A wine tasting evening and the presentation of the book: Guida Go Wine alle Cantine (Circolo della Stampa - Sala Bracco e Sala Camino - Corso Venezia - Milano)

Around 5 pm I left Monza for Milano. Only 20 minutes drive (just because it was not rush hour...). A beautiful walk in a crowded capital. To experience a city from a touristc point of view is delightful. However, I wasn't really doing tourism in Milan today. Like most of the people around me, I was going somewhere.

I had planned to arrive by 6:30 to a certain building in downtown Milano to attend a world premiere launch of a book about wine tourism presented by the association GOWINE. Wine tourinsm.....coincidence....! Isn't it what I am doing?? A book that provides hints to the "wine-trotter", as they are called, and advice on how to make a trip to a cellar worthwhile. Because for people like me, the goal of each itinerary, in the end, is the visit to a cellar.

The author selected 185 wineries based on certain pre-fixed requisites:
- Must be open on weekends.
- Must have good accommodation and eateries nearby.

The presenter was Cesare Pillon and the panelists were Massimo Corrado (author) and Massimo Zanichelli (editor).

At the end of the one hour presentation, I stayed for a wine tasting offered by a selection of about 20 wineries from all over Italy: north, center, south and islands!

These are my notes.

Legenda:
O=olfatto (nose)
G=Gusto (taste)
F=Finish
Numbers go from 1(the lowest score) to 5 (the highest)
Sometimes for the judgement I used the score over 100 points.
